Description:The J2EE Architecture Briefing is designed to give delegates an appreciation of the Java web application development environment, the recommended component-based application architecture, and Enterprise deployment of such applications. Delegates will gain insight into issues of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) with J2EE, including intermediate technologies such as the J2EE Application Server, JNDI and XML; and back-end integration using JDBC, ODBC and MQ Series.

A practical focus of the presentation is integration of mission-critical enterprise applications to help the organisation be more productive and dynamic. Businesses have invested heavily in disparate sets of stand-alone COBOL, VB, Delphi, C++ and COM applications. With relatively minor modification, these systems can be isolated, wrapped in MQ Series or SOAP/XML and, using the J2EE, integrated with the rest of the enterprise applications. Also, ERP systems currently sitting as islands can now be accessed using Java Connector Architecture (JCA).
AudienceThis Briefing is suitable for IT Managers and Directors, IT project managers and technical staff who need an insight into the new J2EE technologies and attendant business processes, and business managers who need to be aware of the new application model and to give buy-in and commitment to applications developed within it.
DurationHalf-day
ObjectivesOn completion of this Briefing, delegates will:

- Have a new perspective on J2EE and EAI, gaining a high-level view of how the architecture works.
- Be aware of the main precepts of good application design within the Java component framework.
- Be able to compare the J2EE architecture and framework with competing frameworks such as Microsoft C#/.Net.
- Be aware at a high level of the main J2EE architecture components, terminology and acronyms and their interaction.
- Understand how end-to-end enterprise applications are built using J2EE, and appreciate their organisational impact.
