Colm O'hEocha

Colm (B.E., M.E.) is an IT industry veteran, with 20+ years design and development experience. His interest in Lean Thinking began when automating Just-In-Time production lines in the 1980s. Implementing early agile software methods in 2001, Colm has extensive hands-on experiences across teams, organisations and technologies. In varied roles of developer, architect, ScrumMaster and Director of R&D, he has seen Lean and Agile from a variety of perspectives. These include the use of agile in the development of enterprise systems, embedded software, high-innovation research environments and in product organisations.

Colm has worked with many international organisations throughout his career including Nortel Networks, Hewlett Packard, ADC Billing Systems and Fidelity Investments.

Acting as an independent consultant for the last 3 years, Colm has developed training material aimed at senior management describing the conceptual foundations and organisational implications of agile methods. These are delivered as intensive half day executive briefings or more in-depth 1 day courses. Colm also delivers team level training on Scrum, Lean and Kanban taking 1 to 2 days. These include interactive exercises and simulations along withnd opportunities to discuss how agile might be applied in particular contexts faced by the trainees.

Colm is also involved with LERO, the Irish Software Engineering Institute, researching innovation and knowledge management in agile and lean environments. While efficiency, flexibility, predictability and quality remain strong justifications for agile, implications for the innovative capability of teams is of increasing strategic importance. Colm integrates much of the latest research on organisational learning and innovation into his agile training and consultancy.

Colm also offers extensive on-site assessments to identify organisational barriers to adoption, and to assess the level of agility and effectiveness of existing development practices. Training and assessments can be integrated with ongoing consultancy, development of adoption strategies and coaching of teams to provide a highly customised and hands-on service to clients.

In the recent past Colm has worked with many of Ireland's major employers delivering training, extensive assessments, consultation and coaching support.
