Strategic Outsourcing:

Executive Briefing

Description:Previously, Outsourcing of IT Services was all about cost. Lip service was often paid to concentrating on core competencies, but the reality was that bottom line benefits could be gained from contracting developers in Eastern Europe or South Asia. However, without a clear management and integration strategy, many companies had negative experiences and ended up bringing the development back in-house, often at higher than originally planned costs.

Today, the situation has much changed. Not only have skills and experience levels improved in developing countries, but levels of international competition means that high quality programmers can be had at very competitive rates. At the same time, often bitter experience has shown Western companies how to structure and manage outsourced projects. Most importantly, companies can gain competitive advantage by smart outsourcing – high quality, fast time to market and affordable cost. Given the rate of change in education of software engineers, some companies will have no choice but to choose the off-shore model.

This half-day briefing covers the key strategic points when considering when, where and how to source software development. It covers the background work that must be done, what the analysts are saying and - most importantly – what the many avoidable pitfalls are. The briefing is experience-led with contributions and case studies from those that have successfully – and unsuccessfully – outsourced projects.

A key section of the briefing covers selection criteria and the construction of a framework for successfully delivering an outsourced project.
AudienceThis briefing is suitable for Senior Managers and Directors involved in the strategy of planning for business development that is dependent on good software design. Whether considering outsourcing or been burned in the past, this briefing will equip managers to think and act strategically in the best interests of the business.
DurationHalf-day
Cost€495
